Junior A vs Ballinteer St. Johns
Sunday, 19th March 2017

Result: 0-10 to 1-10

Junior A Football Division 5

Ballybodens exciting start to their 2017 season came unstuck in Marlay Park on Sunday with a loss to their neighbours Ballinteer St Johns.

Despite fielding a strong side Boden never got going in this game. Played on a heavy pitch, the Boden players were outplayed by their opponents. The fact that they didn’t have to play that well must have been even more annoying for the visitors who finished the game with a numerical advantage. Pretty much anything that could go wrong for Boden went wrong. A mix up in the goal mouth of farcical proportions allowed the home side to boot the ball past the Boden keeper of the turf. At half time it was 1-08 to 0-04 points to the home side. At least 5 or 6 ball ended up in the thankful arms of the home sides goalkeeper and this more than anything must have infuriated the Boden supporters.

With a wind advantage in the second half Boden were just as wasteful, losing possession and giving the ball away repeatedly. Boden allowed themselves to be sucked in to a slugfest that suited the heavier home side who used every tactic to break up the visitors momentum. Aided by a poor piece of refereeing throughout the game the home side ground out the victory that they probably thought they wouldn’t get. Very few of the Boden players will look back on this game with any satisfaction and hopefully they will put it behind them and move on to the next battle with a renewed sense of ambition and determination. This league by all accounts is wide open and every team is going to drop points.

For Boden all indications are that this will be a blip in their season.
