Result: 2-12 to 4-14
Senior football league v St Vincents, Páirc Naomh Uinsionn, 1 April 2017
Ballyboden St Endas 2 – 12; St Vincents 4 – 14
This was a very competitive and entertaining match played on a nice Saturday evening with St.Vincents carrying the day with a strong finish. Indeed, Vincents also started both halves strongly leaving the visitors with a lot of work to do once when they woke up to the task in hand. With 8 minutes gone Vincents had 4 points on the board before Donagh McCabe opened the Boden account with a well taken point. Vincent then brought their lead to 6 points with a goal. Sam Molony converted 2 frees and Alan Flood got a point from play but Vincents responded with two points from play. Then a good move involving Shane Durkin put Robbie McDaid through for a goal from a narrow angle. Points from play by Sam Molony and Warren Egan were cancelled out by St.Vincents to leave Boden just two points down at half time on a score line of 1 – 6 to 1 – 8.
A good start was needed by Boden with the breeze on their backs but it was Vincents who again started well with a goal and 4 points to Boden’s one point by Sam Molony, in the first 13 minutes of the second half to put Vincents 8 points up. Then, as in the first half, Boden woke up and Sam Molony scored a great goal followed by a point from Donagh McCabe. Vincents got a point back before Sam Molony, Darren O’Reilly (2) and Robbie McDaid brought the Vincents lead back to a point with three minutes left. That was as good as it got as Vincents scored two goals (one from the penalty spot) and a point to run out easy winners in the end.
