Saturday evening at 6pm the intermediate team played Scoil ui Chonaill at home in Sancta Maria in the Intermediate B Championship.

The game was played at a good pace , with both sides taking well worked scores after good build up play. Mikey Dunne opened the scoring for Boden with a well taken free. Warren got the 2nd and third points for Boden. Aidan Mellet got the 4th point for Boden. The first 4 points for Scoil were from play, with their fifth coming from a free.

Johnny Murphy then scored the 5th and 7th points from play and Mikey Dunne got the 6th from a free. Scoil then got their 6th and 7th from play. Ciaran Archbold got Boden’s 8th from play. Scoil then got an eight point from a 45 to leave it 8 points a piece. Scoil then got a goal and a point late in the first half to go to half time 4 points up.

At half time Cian Kelly came for Barry O’Donnell, with Aidan Mellet going back to the half back line. The second half started with a bang for Boden as Seamus Keane got a fine goal with Warren Egan scoring a 9th point to put the teams level.  Johnny Murphy then got two points to bring his tally to four points to put Boden up by two, as Scoil missed a chance, before scoring a tenth from play. Then they missed a 45 metre free.  Ronan Cleary, back from injury, came on for Brian Kirwan, who had tired after putting in a lot of hard work. Seamus Keane, playing his first game of the year moved out to midfield. Immediately Ronan made an impression, scoring a goal with his first touch and a point with his second. Scoil then scored two points to make it 2.12 to 1.13 up wit 5 minutes to go. Then came an onslaught on the Boden goal, as they used their bench to good effect. Boden were tiring and had only injured players on the bench. Scoil missed a number of good chances, before scoring a goal to put them one up with a minute to go. Cian Kelly then got the equaliser for Boden to force extra time.

Extra time was too much for the valiant Boden lads and Scoil took over to go 2.16 to 2.14 at half time. The second half of extra time continued in the same vein, as again Scoil again used their bench and ran out winners 2.20 to 2.17. A great effort by the intermediate lads from a squad of 19 players, two injured, against a strong team who had 24 players out. The longer the game went on, it was always going to be a tough tie.Great credit to all who played, the two Mellet brothers for great performances. Ronan Cleary finally getting back from injury and showng his scoring touch yet again. Seamus Keane in his first game, due to his work commitments. Many of the young lads showing well, Stephen Ward tackling hard and made a great goal line clearance. Johnny Murphy working hard and scoring four fine points from play.
