Junior B vs St.Colmcilles
Sunday, 14th May 2017

Result: 5-08 to 2-12

The JBs knew they would be in a battle Royale against a very well drilled outfit like St Colmcilles in this Championship encounter. After getting of to a flying start Boden were under severe pressure but such is the resilience of this team that ,in my mind, victory was ours if we held our nerve. Neil Lynch was first to respond to a bad clearance from the Cilles keeper and after chasing down what looked like a lost cause, he rifled the ball into the net after their keeper attempted a clearance kick. Niall Bradley split the posts after some excellent off the shoulder play to keep Boden on the offensive.Enda Daly and Vinnie Moran in the middle of the park were setting out their stall and were instrumental in creating chances for the forward line. Shane Tully at corner forward was making mazy runs into the Cilles area and scored a fine point of his own. Jamie Kavanagh was using all his strength and power to muscle his marker off the ball and helped set up a lot of Bodens attacks  in the first half. Eoghan Buckley collected a fine ball in from Oisin Cannon, turned his man and with skills beyond his years, turned another Cilles defender inside out and sent the ball high over the bar. The midfield duo of Moran and Daly weighed in with points of their own to give the JBs a commanding lead.Vinnie scored what could only be described as a "wonder goal" when he lobbed the keeper from outfield, his years of experience showing for sure.  Man of the moment,Neil Lynch, actually brought his score to 3-1 before the half time whistle. The JBs went in at half time to a scoreline of 4-5 to 1-5. Management asked them to scratch the scoreline, start again. Tag on our points, show the same aggression and determination in the tackle and we will come away with the win.

However,as can often happen,it was the opposition who brought their game to us. They were hurting and we were now in a game. Cilles quickly tagged on 1-2 after some sloppy passing allowed them a way back into the game. Our defence were under severe pressure and were thwarting attack after attack. We definitely weren't our usual fluent self. Teams always go through purple patches during games ,this was ours. Shane Tully was dropping into the half forward line to collect the ball from Oisin and after some excellent play to get the ball up the field,Oisin scored a goal of his own. The fullback line of McNamara,Dunne and Fitzgerald were quite literally, laying their bodies on the line for the team. They were working the ball out at pace but with pocession being lost further outfield,we're immediately under pressure again. Cilles scored a fine goal and tagged on points of their own to make it a very tense last ten minutes. Lynch and Cannon split the posts to help settle the nerves a bit. Alan Keane in goal made a great save to his right to keep us in it,Daly made an interception,Fran stood his ground to dispocess the Cilles attacker. All hands to the pump at this stage. Conor Woods came on at corner forward and put in a commanding performance for the team. James McTiernan just shaded the post, sending the ball wide. Lynch let loose a shot only to see it roll past the outside of the post. We were creating chances at least. At long last the referee brought events to an end with the blow of his whistle. The JBs now face St Sylvesters in the quarter final of the Championship. Another tough game for sure but one I know the JBs will relish. They are a tough and talented group of players,a pleasure to work with. We now have the small matter of a Cup semi final v Naomh Olafs on Tuesday the 16th of May at 7.15 up in Ballycullen.
When management set out the plan for the season we wanted to be fighting on all fronts,League Champo and Cup. The panel have risen to that challenge in so many ways.
