Marino Waltz for the Junior A team - Limrick Layder reports

Our Junior A hurlers had their maiden outing of the season across in Marino on Sunday against St Vincent’s. Buoyed up with a youthful infusion of players, coaches, dietitians and hob lawyers the convoy headed in confidence to Pairc Ui Uinsionn. Our old coach and thespian Mick Keville is taking a gap year to play with the Junior B hurlers. Counsellor Dan Boland is still in charge and has recruited Tim Sweeney and Brian McCarthy to his backroom coaching staff. Darren Lennox and Oisin Cannon - while recovering from long term injuries are working on the puck out strategies and Susan Creed retains the First Aid, Logistics and Catering portfolio.

The squad have wintered well and are looking strong after 6 weeks of training down with the Carruth Bros in Crumlin Boxing Club and a few tough days up in Ballycullen under the watchful eye of Sweeney/McCarthy.

Daniel Nugent started brightly with an opening point before Neal scored a great goal following a smart pass from Ciaran Flaherty. Andy Hand had a good run and pass to Nugent and another point ensued. The team were playing a nice brand of hurling, tight at the back ….working the ball confidently out of defence… a few slick passes and the forwards were putting scores on the board. The coaching team of Sweeney/McCarthy were looking pretty happy with their lot. Score at half time 1- 5 / 0-3.

Ruairi Kirwan started the 2nd half with some gusto…scoring 1- 2 within 10 mins of the restart. Daniel O’Riordan was showing a bit of belligerence …most welcome in someone so young. At the back the two Mark’s …MacLiam and McGovern along with David Gilheaney were playing beyond themselves.
Brendan Treacy caught a good ball, passed to James Doody who struck a majestic long range point.

Des at the back was on a tough full forward …but he quietened him over the hour.

At the finish the score was 2 – 11 / 0 -11.

All in all a good day’s work and something to work on for the year ahead!
