Coláiste Éanna Leinster Champs

[ Friday, 26th February 2010 ]

Coláiste Eanna, with a starting 15 comprised totally of Ballyboden players, emerged victorious in the Leinster Colleges senior B hurling championship with a scoreline of Eanna 3-12, Cistercians Roscrea 2-8.

Finbarr Furey looms large as Coláiste Éanna celebrate

Coláiste Eanna had the brighter start and led by 1-3 to 0-1 after 12 minutes thanks to a goal by wing back, Seán O'Shea and points from Naoise Maguire and captain, Cillian Moffat.  The free taking of Roscrea's centre-forward, David King, kept them in the game, and the Offaly men (yes!) went on to dominate the second quarter to lead by 1-6 to 1-4 at half time.

A brighter start to the second half where Gavin Corrigan added four superb points from play to the frees of Niall Ryan and 65's from Cillian Moffat.  The Eanna backs were a model of composure with Conor Robinson, in particular, coming out with the sliotar time after time.  The only hiccup of the second half came when Roscrea goalled from a very dubious free.  An immediate response in the shape of a Corrigan point set the Eanna boys back on course.  When Finnian McDonagh drilled a ball to the net with 12 minutes to go, it looked like Coláiste Eanna would make up for losing to Coláiste Eoin at the same stage last year.  They say you have to lose one to win one, and that's how it turned out as Eanna finished with seven points to spare over their opponents.
This was a fitting reward for their skill and teamwork and for the efforts put in by the two Mr. Dowlings and Mr. Conway.
