Minor A hurlers edged out by Crokes

[ Sunday, 27th November 2011 ]

The Boden Minor hurlers played the ‘A’ Championship Final against Kilmacud Crokes on Sunday 27th November 2011 in Parnell Park. On a beautiful sunny morning and playing against a stiff breeze, Boden were out of the traps like greyhounds from Harold’s Cross. Dominating most phases of play, they took the lead though a free and when Gavin Corrigan goaled shortly afterwards, looked in a very strong position after 15 minutes. Good puckout wins by Eoghan O’Neill and Donal Butler were a feature. Crokes began to settle however and they rattled the net three times in the space of 10 minutes, we knew we had a game on our hands. James Roche & Alan Cleary pointed for Boden to steady the ship and the score at half time was 1-5 to 3-3.

Boden did not start the second half in the same fashion and we had to wait till the 6th minute for Corrigan to register the first score of the half. Conor Robinson and Niall Keegan cleared good ball and the blocking by Naoise Green & Ben McEntee in the middle of the field was top class. However, Crokes began to win scrappy ball in the middle of the field and despite their possession, hit a few wides. The match was still in the balance with fifteen minutes to go.  When a long-range Jamie Desmond free flew into the net, it lifted the spirits of team and the large Boden following. This left the minimum in it. However, Crokes continued to win breaking ball and when a long delivery was struck to the net, it effectively finished the contest.   Final score Boden 2-6 Crokes 4-5.

Well done to both sides for entertaining us to a great tussle. Thanks to Páidi, Niall, Paddy & Mick for their commitment and guidance throughout the year. Thanks to the large crowd that travelled in support to Parnell.
