Close Finish to 1st Round Final Game
Ballyboden 2-5 St Jude’s 1-10
A very low scoring 1st half shows that these two teams were evenly matched but from the outset St Jude’s were allowed take control with their No.10 & 11 commanding the midfield area and distributing the ball onto their forwards who rewarded their efforts with 1 goal and 5 very nice points. Ballyboden’s response was a 2 point return from Dianaimh Greene and Fiona Gavin but also their defense looked to be getting the measure of Jude’s forwards towards the end of the half. Soon after the start of the 2nd half Ballyboden had a goal and a point to their credit from Emma Doyle which she followed up with a terrific goal but again with steady play, slick hand passing and great team work St Jude’s responded with a couple of points. There were fine solo performances especially from the Roisin Kamvar, Gavin girls Orla and Fiona – Lauren Edwards and Amy Boyd Lyons plus some great goal line clearance and saves from Aoife Cantwell. We also welcomed the return from injury of Aisling Keane and Ciara Donovan.
With minutes to the final whistle Ciara Ruddy brought the score to within a point but again St Jude’s responded with a final point to give them a 2 point win. Handshakes and smiles were topped off with the hospitality of Ballyboden of tea sandwiches and other goodies which were appreciated by players and supporters from both sides.
All in all a fine end to the round of games in this the 1st year of the Minor League – looking forward to the restart after the summer months and hopefully a Minor Championship which has yet to be decided.
