St. Colmcille's S.N.S., Knocklyon look forward to Croker Double.

[ Monday, 15th June 2009 ]

Tuesday 23 June is the date, Croke Park the venue and the Senior Camogie and Senior Hurling teams from St. Colmcille's Knocklyon look forward to what promises to be a memorable day in the Croker sun.

Pride of place goes to the Senior Camogie team who will contest the U-13 Division 1 Camogie Final, Corn Bhean Uí Phuirséil.  The majority of the girls were on the school's Senior Football team which won the U-13 Div 1 Football title last November and are aiming for a Corke Park double.  However, after an unbeaten run in the League Section the girls will have it all to do if they are to beat a very fine team from the Navan Road, all of whom play for St. Oliver Plunketts.  It promises to be a great game.  Best of luck to the girls and their coaches, Tríona Ní Reachtabhra and Joanne O'Sullivan.  Throw in is 12.30 p.m.

The Boys Senior Hurlers will be contesting the Herald Cup Shield Final against Holly Park.  Throw in 1.30 p.m.  Best of luck to the players and their coaches, Aidan Dundon and Richie Sweetnam.

St. Colmcille's Knocklyon fielded 5 teams in the Cumann na mBunscol Camogie and Hurling competitions over the last few months.  Over 120 boys and girls have had the opportunity to wear the school jersey.  The Corn Nurí Camogie team, coached by Aonghus Byrne improved greatly over the course of their league.  Our Junior Hurlers, coached by Ken Ashman and Conor Horan, also made huge progress over the last couple of months.

The team of the season award must go to the Senior 'B' Hurling team, coached by Vivian Ruddy and Patrick Patten.  They went unbeaten through their League section, playing against the 'A' teams from other schools and narrowly lost their semi-final to Scoil Chaítríona from Glasnevin after an epic tussle.
