Supplementary Insurance Compulsory for all

[ Mon, 8th Jan 2007 ]

Please note the Executive Committee has decided that the Supplementary Player Injury Scheme will be compulsory for all players for 2007. The subscriptions will remain at 2006 levels of €20 for Juveniles, i.e. up to Under 16 and €50 for all others.

The reasons for the decision to make it compulsory were twofold:

  1. to increase the income without increasing the subscription; and
  2. to make it easier to administer. In the past many players who had opted not to join the scheme, still presented themselves to the Club's Physiotherapist for "free" treatment. Despite our best efforts it was almost impossible to prevent them being treated. Also, often times, parents of juveniles who had opted out of the scheme brought their children to hospital and had to pay a hospital charge. They then sought reimbursement of the hospital charge. To avoid any hassle in refusing to give a reimbursement in such cases, it would be easier if everyone was in the scheme.

If anyone refuses to pay the subscription, they must be told that they cannot play for the Club. If there is much resistance to the move to make the Scheme compulsory, then it may be necessary to scrap the Scheme altogether and the players will be the ultimate losers.

The administration of the Player Injury Scheme has been delegated to Jody Moran. His phone number is 087/9550413.
