U10 Hurlers have great win at the 10th Easter Hurling Festival in St Kevins.

Boden U10’s Boys sent one team to the Annual Good Friday Hurling Blitz in St Kevins Hurling and Camogie Club. The morning was dry but a strong wind was blowing which was to play a big part in each of games.

First up for Boden was a game against the host club St Kevins. Boden dominated possession in the early part of the match but found the scoring bit difficult against the stiff breeze. Kevins took the lead and were two points up at the break. The Boden players responded with a strong second half showing but scores were few enough. Entering the last 5 minutes, Boden were still a score down but a monster free from our own half, followed by a three quick goals and Boden edged the match with a couple of scores to spare.

There wasn’t much time for post match analysis as it was straight into our next match with Cuala.  Cuala playing with the breeze took an early lead but Boden defended with great vigour in the first half. However acouple of late scores meant that Cuala lead by four points at the break. Boden continued to hurl very well in the second half and gradually began to chip away at the Cuala lead. It was an exciting finish as two late scores for Boden ensured a two score win.

The last match was against Commercials who like Boden were unbeaten, but had won each of their matches with handsome margins. The result of this game would decide the blitz. This was a tough close game throughout, with never more than 2 scores in it. Boden started well with an early score but Commercials came into it and lead at half time. Scores were hard fought for with some heroic defending on both sides. However with the breeze in the second half, Boden gradually gained the upper hand and saw out a one score win.

There were scenes of great excitement and celebration at the end of this hard fought match. This was a great outing for the players, who showed some wonderful hurling skills and great sportsmanship throughout the blitz.

Finally a word of thanks to the Coaches and parents who travelled – well done to all.
